G. N. Thangavel, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Musiri subdivision, suffered minor injury when the police vehicle he was travelling in rammed a lorry on the Chennai Bypass Road at Senthaneerpuram on Sunday night.

Eyewitnesses said the driver of the empty goods carrier took a turn from the service road at the Senthaneerpuram intersection to proceed towards Thanjavur side when the accident occurred.

Upon noticing the lorry taking a turn, the constable driving the police vehicle, applied brakes a few distance ahead in order to avert a collision.

Nevertheless, the vehicle rammed the lorry causing minor injury to the DSP, who was taken to a nearby private hospital. The lorry driver said to be in a drunken state was detained.

Mr. Thangavel was on his way to Bharathidasan University for security duty in connection with Governor Rosaiah’s visit on Monday.
