A double murder has been reported near here on Friday night.
Police source said D. Senthil (35), a lorry driver, D. Annadurai, lorry cleaner, and G. Mahendran (32), a load auto driver, all of Maruthanallur Onpatthuveli area, were consuming liquor at Sowbakyanagar last night.
Following a wordy quarrel, Mahendran allegedly attacked Senthil with an iron rod. Annadurai attempted to protect Senthil, but he too was attacked. Both of them were killed on the spot.
Superintendent of Police G. Dharmarajan, Deputy Superintendents of Police Radhakrishnan (Tiruvidaimaruthur) and Suyambu (Kumbakonam) visited the spot.
Nachiarkoil police arrested Mahendran.
