A group of workers in the unorganised sector, affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU), Tiruchi, staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Labour here on Tuesday in support of their eight-point charter of demands.

The workers demanded that monetary benefits given to them be doubled in tune with rising inflation and wanted convening of the monitoring committee of the welfare board once in three months.

Among their other demands included pension for women workers from the age of 50 years. The demonstration was led by CITU district treasurer S. Rangarajan.
