The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) will never shake hands with fascist forces, party national president and Union Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed said on Saturday.
The League would go only with secular forces, Mr. Ahamed said addressing a State conference of the IUML organised to oppose terrorism and urging social harmony.
Stating that the IUML was devotedly carrying on the mission of the late leader Qaide Millath, he said the organisation was deep-rooted in the Indian soil.
Mr. Ahamed said IUML's ally in Tamil Nadu was the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
Mr. Ahamed felicitated 16 Mahalla Jamaaths from different parts of the State.
The conference which attracted members and district unit office-bearers from throughout the State adopted 21 resolutions.
One of the resolutions welcomed the IUML’s desire for a strong front headed by the DMK in Tamil Nadu in the Lok Sabha elections.
It appealed to political parties of Tamil Nadu to put an end to what it alleged “autocratic attitude” and “anti-people” actions of the AIADMK government by not creating a situation wherein the votes got split. Among the resolutions passed was Prohibition, implementation of Ranganath Mishra Commission report, increasing the quota for Muslims in Tamil Nadu in education and employment, and granting backward class tag to those who converted to Islam.
K.M. Khader Mohideen, national general secretary and former MP, said 16 Mahalla Jamaaths had been handpicked for their outstanding performances.
Earlier, a rally was taken out in connection with the conference from Vestry school roundabout to Uzhavar Sandhai grounds where the conference was held.
