Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M. Karunanidhi arrived in the city on Thursday night to a rousing reception from party functionaries. He is here in connection with the party’s 10th State conference being held on February 15 and 16.
The Samayapuram Toll Plaza on the city’s outskirts was the spot where DMK functionaries gathered in large numbers to receive their leader who came by road from Chennai.
The party functionaries assembled three hours before at the toll plaza.
A giant cut out and party banners were installed along the spot where the district unit had arranged folk dances by cultural troupes to receive the leader. DMK district secretary K.N. Nehru, party’s newly elected Member of Parliament Tiruchi Siva, the former Union Minister S. Regupathy, and the former Minister N. Selvaraj were present.
A few hours before Mr. Karunanidhi arrived here, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin landed in Tiruchi from Chennai by flight.
