Rural students came out with flying colours in the SSLC public examinations in Tiruchi district, with three of the four district-level first rank holders coming from rural schools.
Girls fared better than boys in the district which recorded 91.01 overall pass percentage.
G. Abinaya of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Mannachanallur, S. Suriya of Amala Girls Higher Secondary School, Musiri, M. Akshaya of Boiler Plant Girls Higher Secondary School, Kailasapuram and A. Jones of Dalmia Higher Secondary School, Dalmiapuram, shared the first rank in the district securing 490 marks each.
This is for the first time that a student from a government school has emerged as a district topper in the SSLC examination, the Chief Educational Officer, Tiruchi, K. Swaminathan, told the media here.
There was a marginal increase in the overall pass percentage in this year's SSLC examinations in the district. The overall pass percentage in 2009 was 90.30.
The district-level second rank was shared by S. Sharmila of Government Girls Higher Secondary School Thathiengarpet and P. Niranchana of Savithri Vidyasala Hindu Girls Higher Secondary School, Tiruchi securing 489 marks each. The third rank was shared by T. Raasshika of A.G.M. HSS Erakudi; S Senthilnathan of E.R. HSS, Tiruchi; M. Vinithalakshmi of Savithri Vidyasala Girls HSS, Tiruchi; S. Nandhini of Holy Cross Girls HSS, Tiruchi and S. Pavithra of Little Flower Girls HSS, Crawford, Tiruchi with each of them scoring 488 marks.
As many as 33,224 students from 242 schools in Musiri, Lalgudi and Tiruchi educational districts including 17,367 girls appeared for the examination, of which 30,238 students including 16,171 girls emerged successful. The pass percentage of girls was 93.11, while it was 88.71 in the case of boys. Thirty eight schools recorded cent percent pass.
Seventy-three students secured centum in mathematics, 28 in science and 33 in social science.
In respect of Matriculation stream, the overall pass percentage in the SSLC examination was 96.30 this year as compared to 95.83 per cent in 2009.
R. Savithri of S.R.V. Matriculation School, Samayapuram emerged on top in the district in the Matriculation stream securing 489 marks, while R.R. Malini of Sowdambika Matriculation HSS, Thuraiyur and K. Sri Abbiraami of S.R.V. Matriculation School, Samayapuram shared the second rank scoring 486 marks.
The third rank was shared by S. Gayathri of Sowdambika Matriculation HSS, Thuraiyur and R. Gifty Silviya of St. James Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Tiruchi.
Of the 2,945 students from 82 schools who took the exam, as many as 2,836 emerged successful.
The pass percentage of girls was 97.97, while it was 94.93 in the case of boys. Forty six matriculation schools recorded cent percent pass. Sixty-two students secured centum in mathematics and 48 in science.
