District level committee formed to check 'paid news'

A District Level Committee has been formed by Collector M. S. Shanmugham to check "paid news" (news or analysis appearing in any media for a price in cash or kind as consideration) during elections.

The committee has been formed as per the directions given by the Government following instructions from Election Commission of India.

District collector is the chairman of the committee. District Revenue Officer is the Vice-chairman. Public Relations Officer, Thanjavur, General Manager, Bharath Sanchar Nigam Ltd, Thanjavur and a newspaper reporter are the members of the committee.

The committee will be assembled during the time of election to scrutinise the "paid news".
