More than 7.56 lakh smart cards will be distributed in Tiruchi district, according to the Collector K. S. Palanisamy.
Speaking at a programme after inaugurating the distribution of smart family cards here, he said that the new cards would replace the existing cards. The distribution would be completed in a phased manner within two months. The Collector said an eight digit OTP number would be sent to the registered mobile number of ration card holders concerned. The OTP number would be valid for a week. Those, who receive the OTP number, should visit the concerned fair price shops to receive the smart ration cards.
Card holders, who wanted to effect changes in the cards, could visit the nearby e-service centres.
In Karur district, Collector K. Govindaraj inaugurated the distribution of smart ration cards at a fair price shop in Thanthonrimalai.
He said that 2,69,473 family cards would be replaced with smart family cards. In the first phase, 78,671 cards would be distributed.
Collector A. Saravanavelraj inaugurated the distribution of smart cards at VSP-II ration shop in Ariyalur. He said that 82,302 smart cards would be distributed within a few days in the first phase.
Smart card will be distributed to a total of 4,27,372 card-holders across Pudukottai district, said S. Ganesh, District Collector.
Inaugurating the distribution at Kalingapatti village near Rapoosal in Iluppur taluk on Saturday, he said that the cards would be distributed in phases. In the first phase, 27,706 cards were being distributed and the balance 3,99,666 cards would be issued during the next phases.
In Nagapattinam district, out of 4,33,562 smart cards, 1,08,140 cards were being distributed in the first phase. S. Palanisamy, District Collector, inaugurated the distribution at a shop at Palpannaichery.
