Digitise land records: Kiran Bedi

Digitisation of land records and those pertaining to water resources should be taken up on mission mode in Karaikal. All details about water tanks in and around the town should be digitised so that there is no encroachment by any person, said Kiran Bedi, Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.

Speaking through video conference during an interaction to redress grievances of residents of the town, she noted that it was good that the district administration had initiated steps for digitising tanks and other major water bodies numbering 534 in the district.

Ms. Bedi, who referred to a complaint by Thanga Devadas, Karaikal unit leader of the India National Communist Party, said that the water bodies should be protected well. In this context, she advised officials to take up conservation measures.

P. Parthiban, Collector, said the district administration had initiated steps for the digitisation of land records. At least three persons complained about foreign job rackets by individuals. They complained that they had been duped of large sum of money on the promise of getting jobs in foreign countries. She directed A.J. Chandran, Senior Superintendent of Police, and Collector to create awareness among the masses particularly youths of fraudulent job rackets.

Collector said that the allocation for Karaikal needed to be stepped up and he had raised the point with the Planning and Research Department. This was the first weekly video conferencing by the Lieutenant Governor. She said she would visit Karaikal for four days from August 17.
