About 50 differently abled people staged a demonstration near the railway station demanding location of the office of the District Differently Abled Welfare Officer in close proximity to the main bus stand in all district headquarters.

In Tiruchi district, the office should have a proper road, and facilities must be created to transport those with orthopaedic disability to the office.

Differently abled people must be nominated to the welfare committees in the districts, they demanded.

Their other demands include appointment of differently abled candidates to teaching posts based on seniority in registration with employment exchange and exemption from teacher eligibility test; rigid monitoring of the provision to reserve three per cent posts for differently abled candidates in government and public sector undertakings; and three percent reservation for the disabled in tenements constructed by the Slum Clearance Board and Tamil Nadu Housing Board.
