Fancy dress, singing and dance contests provide a perfect platform

Heart-warming performances marked the cultural fest for the differently abled, organised by Joseph Eye Hospital in the city on Tuesday.

The event was organized to observe International Day of People with Disabilities. Persons in all categories of disabilities, including hearing impaired, mentally challenged, physically challenged, cerebral palsy, autism, learning disorder, and visually impaired, participated in the competitions.

One thousand people, including children from 22 special schools in Tiruchi as well as members of various differently abled associations, participated in the singing, dance, and fancy dress competitions.

The first prize in fancy dress was bagged by Spastic Society and second prize jointly by Blossom Special School and Intact Special School.

Nest Special School secured first prize in group dance, while Dollar School for the deaf came second.

ORBIT Special School and Poornodaya Trust received first and second prizes in the solo singing competitions.

ORBIT Trust won the group singing competition.

Prizes were distributed by M. Pannerselvam, assistant general manager, Canara Bank, and Shyamala, district differently abled welfare officer, Cuddalore.
