A large number of devotees thronged various temples in the district and offered worship to Lord Ganesha on the occasion of Vinayakar Chathurthi on Monday.
A specially-made kozhukkattai weighing about 75 kg was offered to the lord at Rockfort Sri Taayumanaswami Temple. A similar kozhukkattai was offered to Sri Manikkavinayagar at the base of Rockfort.
According to temple sources, the preparation for the kozhukkattai began a couple of days ago.
A large volume of rice flour, jaggery, coconuts, cardamom, ghee and gingelly were used in the preparation.
T. Rathnavel Pandian, joint commissioner and executive officer of the temple, said special arrangements were made for regulating queues of devotees throughout the day.
Celebrations that commenced today would continue till September 22. M. Pugazhendran, joint commissioner, HR and CE, supervised the arrangements.
Similarly, a large number of devotees offered worship to Sri Kanaga Vinayaka near Brahadeeswarar Temple at Gangaikondacholapuram in Ariyalur district and Sri Madanagopalaswami Temple in Perambalur.
