Members of the Thanjai Periya Kovil Meetpu Kuzhu (Thanjavur Big Temple Retrieval Committee) staged a demonstration here demanding the removal of Babaji Rajah Bhonsle, Senior Prince of Thanjavur, from the hereditary trustee of the Big Temple and appoint new trustees.

They alleged that Prince Bhonsle belonged to the Maratha dynasty and he cannot be the trustee for a temple constructed by Chola Kings. They also demanded the appointment of a director for the Saraswathi Mahal Library. P. Maniarasan of Thamizh Desa Poduvudamai Katchi led the agitation. They went in a procession from the Periyar statue to Sivaganga Park and staged a demonstration there.
