Members of Cuddalore-based public welfare organisations staged a demonstration here on Tuesday condemning the Tiruchi divisional railway authorities for “delaying” the construction of a subway at Lawrence Road in Cuddalore town.

Rallying under the banner Cuddalore All Public Welfare Organisations Federation, the members demanded the railway authorities to immediately commence subway construction work at Lawrence Road in Cuddalore town. The demonstration led by Federation coordinator M. Nizamudeen was held at the Khadi Kraft Junction close to the Divisional Railway Manager's office in the city.

The Federation members said even after allocation of Rs. 6.9 crore by the State government for the subway construction work and approval of the subway design, the Tiruchi divisional railway authorities were maintaining a “lethargic attitude” in commencing the work in the railway portion.

Despite repeated representations to the Southern Railway and Tiruchi divisional railway authorities, works on the railway portion were yet to start causing great hardship to the general public of Cuddalore.

The authorities should immediately start the subway work in their portion, they said.
