Flood control room with toll free telephone number 1077 set up

A control room has been opened at the collectorate here to receive complaints and calls regarding problems related to monsoon and provide information to the public, said N. Subbaiyan, Collector, here on Thursday.

Speaking at a meeting of officials to discuss contingency preparedness regarding the ensuing southwest monsoon, the Collector said that meetings by officials should be held at the Revenue Divisional level and taluk level. People can call 1077, a toll-free number, to lodge complaints.

Encroachments in canals should be removed. Cyclone shelters, marriage halls, and community halls should be kept ready. Fire and Rescue Services personnel should conduct mock drills and keep rubber boats ready.

The monsoon period is from June to September.

PUDUKOTTAI: A flood control room with toll-free telephone number 1077 has been set up at the Collectorate in Pudukottai. All revenue officials should contact the telephone during any emergency, said C. Manoharan, Collector.

Addressing officials at a consultative meeting to evolve a strategy on flood control and remedial steps to be taken up during the course of monsoon here on Thursday, the Collector advised the police personnel to be vigilant.

The police should be in possession of the list of names of fishermen venturing into the sea and coordinate with Fisheries Department.

The Collector advised the Fire and Rescue Service officials to be ready with safety gadgets. Government hospitals should have adequate stock of medicines and vaccines.

The veterinary department officials have been told to be prepared to respond to any outbreak of epidemic among livestock.
