Over 100 women displayed their talent in the district level rangoli kolam competition organised by the Rotary Club of Thuraiyur on the Sengunthar Higher Secondary School premises here on Sunday. The event was organised in connection with the New Year and Pongal celebrations.

The participants were asked to paint rangoli kolam on topic of their choice. Prizes worth Rs.70,000 were distributed to the 14 winners, including 10 consolation prizes.

The kolam by S. Manju Barkavi won the competition and she was awarded Rs. 5,000 worth silk sari sponsored by Sri Kumaran Tex. A. Akila, a housewife, won the table top grinder worth Rs. 4,000 sponsored by Sri Jayalakshmi Metal Mart as second prize. The third prize of Reebok wrist watch worth Rs. 3,000 presented by Maruthi Electronics went to S. Supriya. Annai Hospital gave away consolation prize worth Rs. 500 each to 10 women.

M. Vinitha, president, Rotary Club of Karur Angels, R. Kavitha, its secretary and J. Leelavathi, treasurer, were judges. Ms. Vinitha and P. Balasundaram, president of the Rotary Club of Thuraiyur, gave away prizes to the winners.
