The inordinate delay in completing the construction of culverts on Pattabiraman Pillai Street has been causing immense hardship to residents and road users.
The construction was started about a month ago. Traffic was closed on the road to reach Thennur Main Road and vice versa ever since the road was dug for the project. Being implemented at a cost of Rs.50 lakh that included construction of three culverts and a drain in neighbouring EVR Nagar, it is aimed at preventing rainwater inundation on Pattabiraman Pillai Street.
It should have been completed by this time. Though senior officials of the Tiruchi Corporation and A. Jaya, Mayor had inspected the progress of works about two weeks ago, they are yet to be completed. Considering the importance of the road, the residents said that special attention should been paid to complete the construction on a priority basis. Motorists have been facing hardship due to diversion that had cascading effect on other link roads. When contacted, S. Nagesh, Executive Engineer, Tiruchi Corporation, told ‘The Hindu’ that most of the works had been completed. The delay was mainly on account of providing the recommended curing time for the concrete structure. Officials have been asked to complete the work within 10 days.
