Defamation case against Vijayakant adjourned

He has already got exemption from personal appearance before the High Court

M. Mohammed Ali, Judge, Principal Sessions Court here, on Friday posted a defamation case filed by the State government against Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) president Vijayakant to June 25.

Government pleader A. Kuppusamy said Mr. Vijayakant had spoken in a denigrating manner against the government and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa at a meeting held here in 2012. The case was taken up on Friday.

Mr. Vijayakant has already got exemption from personal appearance in the High Court.

Another defamation case against two more DMDK functionaries – Virugampakkam MLA Parthasarathy and headquarters speaker A. Jayakumar – also came up for hearing, but did not appear.
