Dalmia Cement, Nabard team-up for project

A memorandum of understanding to develop watersheds in Lalgudi taluk of Tiruchi district was signed by Dalmia Cement Bharat Limited with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in Chennai on Wednesday.

The memorandum, signed under the Participatory Integrated Watershed Development Project, will facilitate watershed development over an area of 942 hectares of land in Melarasur and 980 hectares in Kovandakurichi villages in Lalgudi taluk. The Rs. 2.5 crore project, which will benefit 6,000 people in the two villages, will be implemented over a period of five years.

The objectives of the project, the cost of which is to be shared equally by Nabard and Dalmia Cement, include recharging of water table, prevention of soil erosion, and improvement of soil moisture for higher productivity. It will be implemented by Dalmia Bharat Group Foundation.

Those who participated in the signing ceremony included Lalitha Venkatesan, Chief General Manager, Nabard; Vipin Agarwal, CEO-South, Dalmia Cement, and Vishal Bharadwaj, Assistant Executive Director, Dalmia Bharat Group, according to a release.
