Undeterred by his age, S. M. Pazhanimuthu (58), a social activist from Pazhaniyapuram village near Athur in Salem district, has been touring Tamil Nadu on his bi-cycle to propagate Gandhian values and philosophy. Prohibition, corruption, and inter-linking of rivers are his focus. “Total prohibition should be implemented in the country as alcohol has been the main cause of sufferings of people, particularly of those below the poverty line,” he said on his arrival in Tiruchi on Sunday.
For ideal governance, corruption should be weeded out from the country. His next wish is the optimum use of flood water for irrigation through inter-linking of rivers.
This is the third leg of his campaign in different parts of the State. In the first phase, he travelled from Chennai to Kanyakumari last year. In the second phase, he conducted the campaign from Athur and travelled through various centres, including Tiruvannamalai, Kancheepuram, Ariyalur and Perambalur before returning to Athur.
In the current cycle, he has been touring from Athur from Thursday last and has planned to reach Kanyakumari on Wednesday (August 21). He will visit Pudukottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, and Tuticorin en route.
