Cyber crime cell gets a new laboratory

July 15, 2014 01:11 pm | Updated 01:11 pm IST - TIRUCHI:

The Cyber Crime Cell of the City Police has been equipped with a cyber laboratory containing a host of gadgets to aid the investigation.

The laboratory has now enabled investigators to analyse cyber-related data instead of being dependant on other sister agencies.

Sophisticated equipment including call details record analyser, hard disk imaging, mobile tracking kit, and associated tracking facilities worth Rs. 16 lakh have been procured to help the cell in its investigations.

The Cyber Cell was the first of its kind in the Central Zone when it was set up in February 2012 to inquire into various types of complaints including threat e-mail, phishing, online fraud, copy infringement, spoofing, hacking, and virus dissemination.

Police sources said the cell has been provided with an inspector to probe cyber-related offences with supporting staff proficient in cyber operations.

The cell is probing 12 cyber crime cases that have been reported, the sources added.
