Karumandapam Exnora Flood Prevention Committee assured the highways department to plant twice the number of trees that may be needed to be felled for widening the Dindigul road stretch from Ponnagar junction to Karumandapam Koraiyar Bridge.

In a memorandum submitted to the Collector and the Superintending Engineer, Highways, C. Balasubramanian, secretary of the committee, said the road stretch should be widened 2.5 metres on both sides and all the tamarind trees on both sides should be cut.

Culverts

There are about half a dozen culverts carrying rainwater from one side to the other side in Karumandapam areas on this road through round cement pipes. These should be replaced by block / square concrete culverts.

During the execution of the project, all the sodium vapour light posts should be removed and placed on the median. Necessary vital road crossing areas for schools, colleges, market areas should be identified and clearly demarcated.
