The temporary bus stand at military ground in Mannarpuram will cease to function from Wednesday.

The State Transport Corporation and private buses operating on Thanjavur, Madurai, and Pudukottai routes will start plying from Central Bus Stand once again.

The military ground was identified for operating the temporary bus stand in connection with the Deepavali festival to ease congestion at the Central Bus Stand and its vicinity and in view of the overbridge works near Tiruchi railway junction.

Accordingly, it started functioning from October 15, and town buses too were operated to the temporary bus stand.

The city police, however, had asked the Transport Corporation authorities to wind up operations at the temporary bus stand.

Although the temporary bus stand was aimed at easing congestion, the recent rains had rendered the ground slushy making it difficult for the commuters to use the new facility. Mud deposited by buses frequenting the main road leading to K.K.Nagar which runs near the bus stand made it difficult for other road-users, particularly two-wheeler riders, to use the road. The area gets engulfed with dust due to movement of buses blocking the visibility of road-users. It is felt that the early clearing of mud deposits would prevent possible accidents on the stretch.
