CRS to inspect Nagore-Karaikal BG line before December 10

The Commissioner of Railway Safety is expected to inspect the new broad gauge line laid from Nagore to Karaikal before December 10, the Chief Administrative Officer, Construction Organisation, Southern Railway S. Vijayakumaran said on Wednesday.

Works of laying the new 12 kilometre BG line are over, Mr. Vijayakumaran told The Hindu over phone after carrying out a detailed inspection of the new section accompanied by senior railway officials.

Soil support

He said retaining structures had been provided all through the section to support the soil. The section has one halt station at Thirumalairajanpattinam. There are seven major bridges; 10 manned level crossings and over 20 minor bridges in the section. The project was sanctioned in 2002 and the works commenced in 2008. It has been carried out at a cost of over Rs. 50 crore.
