The sighting of a crocodile on the banks of the Kudamuratti river here has made the Forest Department officials keep a watch in the area.
A board has been installed close to the Kudamurutti river cautioning the public against venturing into the water.
Forest officials said local people spotted the reptile on Sunday and immediately sounded an alert to the fire fighters, forest and police officials.
Field-level forest officials visited the area and found a crocodile lying on the bank of the Kudamurutti. However, the nearly six to eight foot long slid into the water body later.
A close watch was being maintained in the area and public have been asked to alert the Forest Department if they spotted the crocodile again, said an official.
The board had been installed to create awareness among the people, the official said added that similar boards had been put up along the Uyyakondan river at Ettarai and Koppu villages.
