Rosaiah said addressing the first Graduation Day of Chenduran College of Engineering and Technology, Pudukottai at National College Auditorium in Tiruchi on Monday.

Most of the engineering graduates were either unemployable or not employed in suitable jobs. Higher educational institutions need to create a platform for nurturing skills, innovation and research. Through starting incubation centres, establishing research laboratories and conducting international workshops, the students must be initiated into research and entrepreneurship, the Governor said.

Educational institutions need to prepare students for the real world scenario. Worldwide, reputed higher educational institutions impart quality education coupled with moral values. “Mere quality education will not suffice; building character counts,” the Governor said and complimented the college management for transforming rural students into engineering graduates.

In his special address, A. Navaneethakrishnan, Chairman, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, said the attributes of sacrifice, perseverance and dedication determine success. He advised the students to prepare themselves for competitive world by constantly updating their knowledge on science and technology. Work hard and smart as well in the technology era with a sense of discipline and strive to excel in the chosen field. One must be fit economically, socially, politically and educationally to remain relevant, the TNPSC Chairman said.

The Governor and Mr. Navaneethakrishnan conferred degrees on 109 undergraduates in the presence of R. Vairavan, Chairman, Chenduran Institutions; T. Thiagarajan, Secretary; and other functionaries of the Tiruchendur Murugan Trust that runs the College. Presenting the Graduation Day report, the Principal A. Naveen Sait said the college that now offers six UG and five PG degrees has secured ISO 9001 certification.
