The district administration has instructed sellers of crackers to exhibit the type, composition of chemicals and noise level in decibels.

While directing them to sell crackers of noise level below 125 decibels, Collector K. Rajamani advised the public to desist from bursting sound-emitting firecrackers between 10.00 p.m. and 6.00 a.m.

The public must purchase only those crackers that comply with the direction of the Supreme Court, the Collector said in a press release.

Deepavali being a family festival, the celebration must be noiseless, smokeless and safe, and thereby environment-friendly, Mr. Rajamani said.

The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has created awareness among the public and the student community regarding sound pollution caused by bursting of crackers, the press release from the Collector said.
