A special team of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) visited fair price shops in various parts of the town on Friday and listened to the grievances of cardholders who were waiting to collect their rations .

The visit of the CPI (M) team to the ration shops was based on the decision taken at the State committee meeting of the party to gain firsthand knowledge of the irregularities taking place in the distribution of essential commodities .

The CPI (M) team led by D.Salomi, district secretary of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), and comprising among others S.Anbumanavalan, town secretary of the party, interacted with people waiting in the queues .

The women drew the attention of the CPI (M) team that they were being supplied three litres of kerosene only on particular days.

If it was not collected on the scheduled day, it’s as good as lost .

Some have not received their quota continuously even for five or six months. Hence many women will form queues in front of the ration shops on the previous night itself.

A press release of the CPI (M) said that people expect the government to take initiative for setting the things right and ensure that all the cardholders get their quota of kerosene at any day in the month.

The team will inspect all the fair price shops in the district and will later stage agitations to draw the attention of the government to the irregularities taking place in the fair price shops, Mr.Anbumanavalan, town secretary of the CPI (M), said in statement.
