Cadre of the Communist Party of India (CPI) staged demonstrations in Tiruchi and other districts in the Central region on Tuesday demanding that the Edappadi K. Palaniswami government step down for “sacrificing the interests of the State” and “failure” to protect the rights of Tamil Nadu.

The party cadre raised slogans against the government, charging them with acting in a “selfish manner” and striving to attain majority through shortcut. Condemning the government for not conducting local body elections, they also claimed that the administration had come to a standstill.

In Tiruchi, party functionaries led by CPI urban district secretary K. Suresh staged a demonstration near the central bus stand in which the party’s State administrative council member T. Indrajith took part.

The party claimed that the AIADMK government had fallen prey to the conspiracy of the Central government and “sacrificed the welfare of the State” and betrayed the people only to protect their position.

Demonstrations were also held at Perambalur, Pudukottai, Ariyalur and Thanjavur districts in accordance with a State-wide call given by the party.
