The city unit of the Communist Party of India has urged the Tiruchi Corporation to give up privatisation of sanitary operations in the city.
A resolution adopted at the conference of the city unit of the party here on Monday said the Corporation should instead recruit more sanitary workers. The Corporation should also initiate steps to establish an integrated bus stand in the city, which is located centrally in the state.
The party also called upon the Corporation to remove encroachments at Thennur, Palakkarai and Gandhi Market areas to ease the traffic congestion in these areas. The civic body should ensure that bio-medical waste from hospitals were not mixed with regular solid waste or dumped in water courses.
The meeting also called upon the Central government to upgrade the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in the city on a par with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
The State government should expedite the construction of the multi-level road overbridge under construction near the Railway Junction in the city. It called upon the State Transport Corporation to ensure uniform fare in all buses and desist from collecting higher fares on Limited Stop Service buses. Additional buses should be operated to places where services are limited, the party said.
