City Corporation authorities on Monday cleared encroachments near Thillai Nagar First Cross along a ‘channel poromboke' close to Dhevar Colony.
Compound walls and sheds put up on the occupied part of the channel inside the compounds of a house and an apartment complex were demolished by the authorities with police support.
The encroached portion had once served as drainage leading to Salai Road.
According to official sources, the operation was conducted after ensuring that a court stay order obtained earlier by the house owner did not pertain to the encroached portion listed as ‘channel poromboke' in the local body's records.
The operation planned a few months ago was shelved in view of elections to the Assembly.
There was no major construction on the encroached portion measuring six feet in width and over 300 feet in length, local sources said.
