Cooperative polls conducted like AIADMK party elections: BJP

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Pon. Radhakrishnan on Tuesday alleged that the ongoing elections to cooperative bodies in the State were taking place like AIADMK party elections.

Stating that the elections to cooperative bodies were being conducted after a long gap, Mr. Radhakrishnan said it was unfortunate that the character of the poll had changed due to those seeking political gains with a view to accumulating wealth.

Amid accusation of ruling party functionaries’ involvement in manipulation and committing irregularities in several districts in the cooperative polls, Mr. Radhakrishnan said Chief Minister Jayalalithaa should look into the issue and order legal action against her party functionaries found involved in such acts. Speaking to reporters here, Mr. Radhakrishnan said the BJP state unit was preparing for the Parliamentary polls scheduled next year, while claiming that the party would bag few seats in the State on its own strength.

Claiming that political murders were taking place in the State besides a string of property crimes, he said the State government had the duty to maintain order failing which they would face a slump.
