Valarmathi says ₹83 lakh has been extended as credit

Cooperative institutions in the district were performing well and were upholding the principles of the cooperative movement of mutual aid and fostering the socio economic development of the poor and middle income group people, said Vellamandi N. Natarajan, Minister for Tourism, here on Monday.

Speaking at the All India Cooperative Week celebrations here, Mr. Natarajan said the Amma medical shops, Farm Fresh vegetable outlets and the District Cooperative Milk Producers Union were serving the consumers well. S. Valarmathi, Minister for Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare, said cooperative institutions in the district have extended ₹83 lakh as credit to beneficiaries from backward communities during the current financial year. Sanction of loans to the tune of ₹1.61 crore has been recommended.

Collector K. Rajamani said smart ration cards have been issued to 6.76 lakh card holders in the district so far.

Best performing cooperative institutions in the district were presented with shields on the occasion.
