Co-op banks disburse Rs.20.98 cr to farmers

About Rs.20.98 crore has been disbursed as crop loans to 9,163 farmers by cooperative banks in the district during the current financial year, Collector M. Vijayakumar has said.

Speaking at the farmers grievances day meeting here on Thursday, Mr.Vijayakumar said the cooperative banks have also extended Rs.78.31 lakh as mid-term loans to 431 farmers. This apart, Rs.60.15 crore has been extended as jewel loans to 12,153 farmers. About 280 self-help groups have been extended Rs.7.79 crore as loans.

The Collector assured farmers that steps would be taken remove encroachments on irrigation channels. The Integrated Watershed Development Programme would be implemented in the district from April, he said.

District Revenue Officer S.Palanisamy, Joint Director of Agriculture Radhakrishnan and farmers representatives attended the meeting.
