Cadre of the Communist Party of India (CPI) were arrested here on Thursday when they staged a protest on Puthur Four Road seeking steps to control price rise .

Holding party flags, they urged the Centre to increase the number of days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme to 200 and provide Rs. 400 as daily wages to each labourer.

Their other demands included payment of Rs. 3,000 as pension to all those above 60 years.

The arrested cadres were later released.
