Members of various consumer and service organisations have appealed to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to recommend to the Union government the establishment of All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Tiruchi.

Rallying under an umbrella organisation, Federation of Consumer and Service Organisations, activists staged a demonstration here on Tuesday to draw the attention of the Chief Minister to their demand. The demonstration held near the collectorate was led by the federation’s president M.Sekaran.

The demonstrators said the establishment of AIIMS in Tiruchi was a long-pending demand of the public of the district.

Establishment of such a facility in the heart of the State would help people of various districts, the federation said.
