P. Anandaraj (40), a Congress worker, was found murdered with some injuries on his neck at Adhanakottai near here on Saturday.

He was formerly Pudukottai taluk president of the party and also the former village panchayat president and ward councillor. The body was found near his two-wheeler. Adhanakottai police seized the body and sent it for post-mortem to government headquarters hospital. R. Tamil Chandran, Superintendent of Police, inspected the scene.

Congress workers and leaders, including district president M. Pushparaj, former district president A.Chandraseakar, and former MLA S.C. Swaminathan offered their last respects to Anandaraj. In the meantime, a group of relatives resorted to road roko at the village and in front of the hospital demanding immediate arrest of those behind the incident. Police pacified them by assuring prompt action. Adhanakottai police have registered a case.
