Though Chennai region was second in class XII results in 2012 with pass percentage of 97.21, it could retain the first position among 18 regions in terms of performance.
The pass percent has decreased by 0.37 per cent compared to last year. Yet, 18 out of 59 Kendriya Vidyalayas secured 100 per cent results, compared to 15 last year. As for class X, introduction of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) has removed scope for failures in class X examination. But there was scope for improvement, N.R. Murali, Regional Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Chennai Region, said, at the inaugural session of KVS’ three-day regional principals’ conference, here on Thursday.
The annual event will witness discussions on three main points: academics, administration and finance. Principals in Chennai region will discuss various topics pertaining to the agenda points to bring about all round development of students. Under academics, the focus will be on internal results, innovation and experimentation, study materials, use of ICT, and function of clubs.
Mr. Murali placed the onus on principals for utilising support systems in order to ensure all students secure pass marks. Never stop looking at alternatives. Principals ought to be pro-active problem solvers at ground level. Performance can be achieved by making people feel good. A feel of empowerment is what results in flexible and good performance, he told principals. Acknowledging the work pressure of principals, Mr. Murali advised them to delegate tasks to teachers thereby facilitating their transformation to the next level. On professional development, he advocated optimum utilisation of the additional time of one hour and 20 minutes teachers are now required to spend every day under Right to Education Act for curriculum transaction.
Chief Guest for the occasion A. Nagarajan, Director, Bharathidasan Institute of Management, explained how every experience enriches one’s outlook. Referring to teaching as among the best professions, he advised principals to realise their capacities and utilise them without any inhibitions.
Discussions on administration will be on vacancy position, construction activities, transfers, RTI Act, and implementation of Raj Bhasha. Fee collection and account management figure among important points for deliberations on finance.
