A total of 81,460 beneficiaries will get eligibility cards for availing the construction of concrete houses under Kalaignar's concrete housing schemes in the coming years till 2016 in Tiruvarur district, said U.Mathivanan, Dairy Development Minister, here on Wednesday.
He distributed the cards to 2,180 persons at a function held here. The card gives the guarantee for availing the housing facility provided the people produce the pattas for the house site they live.
Mr. Mathivanan said that 1,06,180 huts have been identified for conversion into concrete houses under the scheme in the district in six years ie from 2010 to 2016. This year 14,720 houses are under construction. Rest will be constructed in the coming years. For that all the beneficiaries will be given eligibility cards.
The Minister said that the duty of a welfare state is to provide food, shelter and clothes to the people. DMK Government has been working towards social and economic development of the people in the State. One such scheme is providing concrete houses to 21 lakh people in the State in six years. The aim is to remove all huts and replace it with concrete houses. A sum of Rs. 75,000 is provided to a beneficiary for construction of the houses under the scheme.
M. Chandrasekaran, District Collector, said that the concrete housing scheme provided security, social status and development to poor people.
P. Moorthy, Superintendent of Police, Poondi Kalaivanan, Cotton Advisory Board member, N. Swaminathan, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), A. K. S. Vijayan, MP, participated in the function.
