The city police have drawn up a comprehensive security plan for Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi's visit, here on Thursday.
Mr. Rahul Gandhi who will arrive here by a special flight from Coimbatore at around 3.30 p.m. will take part in two programmes to be organised by the Indian Youth Congress (IYC).
He will address and interact with the elected women office bearers of the IYC at the Shrimati Indira Gandhi College for Women and later interact with the men office bearers of the IYC at the St. Joseph's College in the city.
He will leave for Chennai around 6.20 p.m. from here by the special aircraft. A team from the elite Special Protection Group is already camping in the city to provide security cover for Rahul Gandhi.
Police sources here said around 1,500 police personnel would be deployed including the two Deputy Commissioners of Police; the Superintendent of Police of Tiruchi and Karur districts, 14 Assistant Commissioners of Police; 30 Inspectors and over 65 Sub Inspectors.
Three companies of personnel from the Tamil Nadu Special Police and eight platoons from the Armed Reserve would also be involved in security duty, police sources here said.
