A committee to address shortcomings in health initiatives is likely to be constituted soon in the district.

A decision to this effect was arrived at a meeting of District Consumer Protection Committee meeting, chaired by Collector Jayashree Muralidharan on Wednesday.

The meeting discussed services rendered by the departments of Public Health, Transport and Civil Supplies.

The demand to form the committee was aired by representatives of various consumer organisations who attended the meeting. The committee will comprise a couple of doctors, an advocate and two representatives of consumer organisations. Consumer organisations also called for mobilising additional manpower for dengue prevention measures taken up by Public Health Department in Corporation, Municipal and panchayat unions in the district. The meeting also called upon the Transport Corporation to instruct bus crews to ensure that buses were in good condition before they were taken out for regular trips. Bus crews should also be instructed to stop vehicles at designated halts. The stock position of essential commodities should be prominently displayed in all ration shops. DRO T.Thiyagarajan, and M.Theerthagiri, District Supplies Officer, were present.
