Public interface session to be conducted every week
Close on the heels of creation of a special cell in the city to investigate into complaints of land grabbing, 31 petitioners approached the Commissioner of Police E.Ma. Masanamuthu on Monday seeking remedy.
As an immediate response to one of the petitions, an encroached plot in Edamalaipatti Pudur belonging to the petitioner based in Nagercoil was retrieved and the case was resolved in a matter of hours through the local police, the Commissioner said. He expressed certainty that the prompt action would serve the purpose of boosting public confidence in the mechanism of attending to complaints.
Action on the petitions will follow based on their merit. Genuine petitioners will be informed of the progress of the action in three days, Mr.Masanamuthu said, and announced that the public interface to attend to land grabbing complaints will be conducted on a weekly basis.
Monitored by the special cell, Assistant Commissioners in the city's four ranges will investigate into the petitions that the public have been encouraged to hand over directly to the Commissioner of Police.
The special cell headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, City Crime Records Bureau, functions under the direct supervision of the Commissioner of Police, with the mandate to probe complaints against land grabbers who indulge in the act by through forged documents, forcible eviction through intimidation, use of muscle power, and holding ‘katta panchayats.'
The cell would conduct detailed preliminary enquiry, record statements, peruse the documents and send a report to the Commissioner of Police.
