The Tropical Butterfly Park, a much awaited tourist destination of the people of Tiruchi, will be ready to receive visitors by Pongal, said a forest official.

Spread across 25 acres in Upper Anicut reserve forest in Srirangam, under the ambit of the Tiruchi forest division, the park boasts host plants that attract the winged beauties, and ideal soil and temperature conditions. The objective behind the initiative is to provide a beautiful environment for the butterflies to breed. The numerous butterflies in the park would be a source of delight for nature lovers, environmentalists, and general public. The project would include Nakshatra Vanam , outdoor conservatory and an indoor conservatory for breeding butterflies. The Nakshatra Vanam would contain trees related to the zodiac signs and stars of Indian astrology. There would also be sanitary facilities for visitors.

“Only the outdoor conservatory would be open to public during Pongal.

The public are quite eager to experience the one of its kind attraction in the district and we don’t want to keep them waiting for long,” said an official.

An amount of Rs. 4 crore is yet to be sanctioned by the government for the completion of the Rs. 8.67 crore project, say officials.
