Collector Jayashree Muralidharan paid surprise visits to rural parts of Manikandam Union on Tuesday to determine progress of development schemes.
At Vellakuttai hamlet in Periyanayagichathiram panchayat, where silt removal work in the water body is being executed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, at an expenditure of Rs. 8 lakh.
Stock records scrutiny
After inspecting the attendance register and determining the wages paid, she scrutinised the stock records at the noon meal centre attached to the Inamkulathur Panchayat Union Elementary and Middle Schools, and checked if food was prepared hygienically.
The Collector also interacted with students to assess their academic efficiency, before carrying out a similar exercise at the Anganwadi Centre there to determine food quality.
Later, the Collector tested at random the quality of materials used for construction of a four kilometre stretch branching off from National Highway 45 to Inamkulathur via Periyalampatti and Chinnalampatti.
Senior officials, including the Project Officer of District Rural Development Agency M. Santhosh Kumar, Assistant Collector (Training) R. Shanmugapriya, and Executive Engineer of Department of Rural Development S. Sankarajothi accompanied the Collector.
