Collector K.S. Palanisamy has instructed corporation officials to initiate stern action against those dumping garbage in the Uyyakondan canal.

Issuing a series of instructions to officials after an inspection of the canal on Saturday, Mr. Palanisamy directed the corporation to book lorries that were used for dumping solid wastes on the canal banks. “Initiate steps to cancel the permits of lorries indulging in such acts,” he told the corporation officials.

Mr. Palanisamy reviewed the cleaning works taken up along the canal bank between the Puthur Weir and Chettipalam and discussed the next phase of work to be carried out between the Chettipalam and the new bridge of the link road at Anna Nagar.

He instructed the officials to clear the silt from the canal after the water flow recedes. He directed the officials to plant tree saplings along the bunds already cleaned up.

Corporation officials were asked to commence the work on creating a walkway between Chettipalam and Anna Nagar. Saplings planted along the stretch are to be provided with tree guards.

City Engineer (in-charge) S. Nagesh, PWD (River Conservation Division) Executive Engineer D.Kalaiselvan and P. Kannan, Assistant Executive Engineer, PWD, accompanied the Collector.
