Collector T. Soundiah giving away scholarship to a college student who was formely a student with the child labour special school in Tiruchi.

Collector T. Soundiah on Monday gave cash assistance to the parents of six child labourers studying in the special schools run by the Child Labour Elimination and Effective Rehabilitation Society (CHEERS) under National Child Labour Project in the district for starting small business for their livelihood.

Mr. Soundiah gave a total financial assistance of Rs.18,000 at the rate of Rs.3,000 each to the six parents – V.Sundari, Jayalakshmi, Thavamani, Nagarathinam, Poorayi and Dhanapakkiam from Alamarthupatti, Malayappanagar, Ambikapuram, Ariyakonpatti and Vellakal from the Collector's Discretionary Fund at a function organised by the CHEERS.

The Collector also distributed Rs.2,250 as educational assistance provided by the Tamil Nadu State unit of the National Child Labour Rehabilitation Welfare Society to the students of child labour schools who had secured high marks in the Tenth Standard and Plus Two public examinations held last year. P.Manju, Project Director of CHEERS, Shyamala, District Disabled Rehabilitation Welfare Officer and others spoke.
