Stern action will be taken against persons running bars without permission, said Collector M. Vijayakumar here on Tuesday.

The Collector, who made surprise inspection of hotels and restaurants in various parts of Perambalur town, verified the licences of these establishments and also checked the quality of food prepared and the hygiene condition in these hotels.

He checked some shops at random about the quality of food items sold in these shops.

Mr. Vijayakumar, who also inspected some hotels regarding engaging of child labour instructed the hoteliers to keep the kitchen, toilets and halls clean and tidy. He also ordered closure of a small hotel run without permission in a thatched shed in the bus stand.

The Collector ordered the officials to take action against a snack stall that was using domestic LPG gas cylinders. Similarly, he ordered action against a hotel that was running a bar without permission near the old bus stand. He said that action would be taken against persons engaging children for work in the shops, hotels and mechanic sheds in the district.

District Revenue Officer S. Palanisamy, District Supply Officer Arimainayagam Varagunaraj and other officials accompanied the Collector during his surprise inspection.
