Stern action would be taken against the medical shops found selling expired and fake drugs in Tiruchi district, said Collector T.Soundiah here on Tuesday.
The Collector, who made surprise check in a few godowns and several medical shops in various parts of the city including the central bus stand area, Periya Kammalatheru and Thillainagar, verified the drugs kept there. He also inspected the registers maintained by them.
Mr. Soundiah directed the stockists to destroy expired drugs immediately. The medical shops should maintain a record for the expired drugs which were returned to the stockists.
The Collector found that some drugs that were to expire in two months time were kept along with the other medicines in a godown and sent these to drug authorities for verification .
The Collector told medical retailers not to sell medicines without doctor's prescription and asked the people not to buy medicines without a prescription. He said that he did not receive any complaint from the public about sale of expired or fake drugs.
He said that a team led by Assistant Director of Drugs with Drug Inspectors was already inspecting all the godowns and shops in various parts of the district to ensure supply of quality drugs to the people. He pointed out that people should bring to the notice of the district administration if anybody was found selling expired and fake medicines.
