Collector asks officials to speed up work at Thirunallar

Three categories of queues to be allowed

Collector E. Vallavan has directed officials of the Public Works Department to expedite all development works taken up at Dharbaranyeswarar Temple at Thirunallar ahead of ‘Sanipeyarchi,’ which falls on December 16.

The Collector on Wednesday inspected arrangements being made for the festival at the temple, which is expected to attract more than 10 lakh devotees from throughout the country during the transit of Saturn. He enquired with the officials about the steps taken to provide basic amenities including dressing rooms, rest rooms, drains, permanent shed, in front of the temple tower, and parking lots for the visiting devotees.

The temple devasthanam has made arrangements for different queues for free, special and VIPs. divided queues into general, paid and VIP for the benefit of devotees.

For special queues devotees have to pay Rs. 200 and Rs. 300 for quicker darshan.

The Collector inspected the Nalan Theertham, which will be the major destination of all devotees at the Saturn’s abode. Two borewells had been sunk to ensure the supply of water to the tank to facilitate the devotees to take a holy dip. Two watch towers had been set up around the tank to monitor the movement of crowd and to curb crimes. The Collector told presspersons that 92 closed circuit television cameras have been installed in different places within and outside the temple premises particularly at Nalan theertham, Saraswathy theertham, Brahma theertham, and in four car streets for the smooth conduct of Sanipeyarchi festival.

Police control room and first aid centres have also been set up in various places to extend a helping hand to the devotees. The Executive Officer of the temple devasthanam, S.K. Pannerselvam, Superintendent of Police (in-charge) Palanivel, Superintending Engineer of PWD Shanmugha Sundaram, and Executive Engineer Rajasekaran were present.
