The Tiruchi district in general and Srirangam constituency in particular is waiting to accord a rousing reception to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who will be arriving here on Sunday on a three-day maiden visit to the district after taking over the reigns of the State last month.

Ms.Jayalalithaa is the first Chief Minister to be elected from a constituency in central region. Though the Chief Minister will be staying in the city for three days, her only official function is laying foundation stone for various development works and distribution of assistance under welfare schemes to beneficiaries belonging to weaker sections in Srirangam at a function on Sunday evening.

N.R.Sivapathi, Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare, the only representative from Tiruchi district in the Jayalalithaa Cabinet apart from the Chief Minister, will be the lone Minister to speak at the function, along with other elected representatives. On Monday and Tuesday, the Chief Minister is expected to visit various parts of the Srirangam constituency to thank voters.

The residents of the temple town of Srirangam and the surrounding areas which formed the Srirangam Assembly constituency, who were anxiously waiting for the visit of Ms.Jayalalithaa ever since AIADMK returned back to power, are ecstatic and feel that the visit promises a new beginning for the constituency with expectations for an overall development for the district in general and the temple town in particular. Happier still are the women who see in Jayalalithaa's victory the possibility of proper and effective implementation of civic facilities, which this world renowned heritage town has been longing for many decades.
